Our Philosophy

The Philosophy of Chiropractic is that all dis-ease (lack of ease) is caused by a vertebral subluxation (or misalignment). Whenever anyone feels ill it is due to lack of ease – pain is one symptom that may result. When you have pain the brain is being told by some part of the body that it has lack of ease – it hurts! When the body communicates with the brain it is over the afferent nervous system, which the brain interprets as pain. For example, when you bump your elbow you hit your "crazy bone" (the afferent nerve). All doctors are taught about a normal nerve cycle. It doesn't matter whether you are a medical doctor, osteopath, chiropractor, dentist, psychiatrist, or psychologist, we are all taught that the brain controls and coordinates all structures in the body and relates the individual to his environment (Gray's Anatomy, 28th and 29th Edition)

The Science of Chiropractic is the finding of nerve interference (nerve interference is the inability of the brain to communicate with a part of the body which in turn is not functioning normally). When a vertebra moves out of its normal juxtaposition it impinges on the spinal cord or spinal nerve. For fun you might look up in the dictionary the word "innervation," which tells you that all body parts must be innervated or they cannot work. We call this nerve interference the cause of dis-ease – the offending organ or tissue cell is communicating to the brain by way of various body signals (i.e. pain). Because you have this pain you feel ill. By taking spinographs (x-rays) of the spine a Chiropractor can determine which vertebra is the offending (subluxated) vertebra, which is producing spinal cord or spinal nerve pressure, which is causing the dys-function of a tissue or organ. We have the following instruments, which help us find spinal cord and/or spinal nerve interference: the neurocalometer (neuro=nerve; calo=heat; meter=to measure, hence to measure nerve heat), neurocalograph, and the chirometer.

The Art of Chiropractic is the ability to adjust a subluxated (misaligned) vertebra back to its correct position so that all nerve interference is removed! We combine the analysis of the spinographs, which tell us HOW to adjust the patient, with the use of our scientific instruments, which tell us WHEN to adjust the patient so that we do not over-adjust. Health is usually returned and the patient has no symptoms! Chiropractic is the only science that works with the body's nervous system to get sick people well. This is the best gift to mankind because all disease has responded to Chiropractic care. The art of adjusting does not come overnight – it takes years of practice and a day does not go by without practicing the art by the exercises that have been taught to master the art of adjusting vertebrae. What most patients don't realize is that in an atlas (first vertebra in the spine, protecting the brain stem) vertebral subluxation there are five directions usually that are being corrected with the one adjustment. If this is done correctly the whole spine changes without having to adjust any other vertebra! Dr. B.J. Palmer had a research clinic where he devoted many years to the development of the Palmer Specific method of correction. I am honored to say that I was trained in the Palmer method by the best Upper Cervical practitioner since Dr. B.J. Palmer himself, Dr. Clarence D. Jenson.
